Terms & Conditions

1. COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to participate in the Accessibility Design Competition 2022 (the “Competition”) student must enroll in the full-time program at the time of online application as well as during the competition (expectedly from April till early June 2022). The competition is open to all students currently enrolled in any programs at RMIT University campuses and selected Universities in Vietnam

  • Each team comprises of three students and one Industry Partner 

  • The Industry Partner will be announced and assigned to your team after the ADC Networking Night on 05 May 2022 where you can have a chance to get to know Industry Partners and propose your 3 preferred Industry Partners. We will assign Industry Partners based on your preference. 

  • Students’ major or campus will not have any bearing on the application 

  • Each participant can only belong to one team. Individuals registered as members of multiple teams are not eligible for the competition 

  • Only one member of the team fills in the online registration form and submits before the deadline (28 April 2022)

Note: Candidates who won 2020 Accessibility Design Competition with 1st place Prize cannot join the 2022 version 

If you meet all of the eligibility requirements to participate in and enter the Competition, you are referred to herein as an “Eligible Entrant”. Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English since all briefs and instructions will be delivered in English only (there will be no translation). All submitted works must be prepared and presented in English.

3. REGISTRATION PERIOD 

 

Registration will end on Thursday, 28 April 2022 at 11:59pm.

 

4. SUBMISSION 

Teams must submit their Submission by the following deadlines:  

Online Application: Thursday, 28 April 2022 at 11:59pm 

Idea Submission: Thursday, 19 May 2022 at 11:59pm 

Design/Prototype Submission: Wednesday, 01 June 2022 at 11:59pm 

 

Note: Any Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted. Submissions from unregistered persons will not be accepted. No Submission will be returned.  Submissions must adhere to the Submission Guidelines as outlined in the Competition Journey. The language of all submissions must be in English

5. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1/ Intellectual Property Warranties, Representations and Licenses. Eligible Entrants hereby warrant that your Submission is wholly original and that you are the copyright owner of the Submission. You warrant that your Submission does not infringe or violate any intellectual property rights including copyrights and trade-marks, proprietary rights, privacy or publicity rights, or any other rights of any kind whatsoever including any federal, provincial or municipal laws. The Submission has not been created using any pirated or unlicensed content, or other materials that include copyrighted or trademarked material that the Competition Organizer would not be entitled to use without a further payment to the intellectual property owner.  

2/ You hereby acknowledge and understand that in case of any Copycat and/or Seeking for Help is conducted in relation to your Submission; your Submission will be disqualified as per the sole decision of the Judges. Any awards will also be withdrawn and you will not be eligible for the next competitions organized by the Competition Organizer. You have the responsibility to double check and research to make sure that you have not and will not commit any Copycat, regardless of your intention or not to do so, and try your best to avoid the Copycat. The Judges will not be obliged to check and research to confirm that any Copycat is conducted or not in your Submission. 

6. CONDUCT 

By participating in the Competition, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions and agree to abide and be bound by them and all decisions of the Competition Organizer, which shall be final and binding, without the right of appeal, in all matters relating to this Competition and the awarding of prizes. The Competition Organizer reserves the right, in their sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify any entrant that it finds to be: (a) violating the Terms and Conditions; (b) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Competition; (c) acting in an unfair play or disruptive manner; or (d) attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Competition.

 

Caution: Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to deliberately damage any website associated with this Competition or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Competition may be a violation of criminal and/or civil laws. Should any of such an attempt be made, the Competition Organizer reserves the right to seek remedies for this damage to the fullest extent permitted by law, and to ban or disqualify the entrant from this and future competitions. 

7. JUDGES, JUDGING CRITERIA AND SELECTION OF FINALISTS AND WINNERS

First round - Online Application 

  • Understanding of issues at hand. Submission demonstrates an understanding of the barriers to employment being discussed. 

  • Team. Submission describes the team’s composition and how the team’s background supports the solution development. 

  • Enthusiasm to solve the problem. Submission shows that you care for people with disabilities and are willing to solve a social issue. 

 

Second round - Idea Submission 

  • Risks and Challenges. Submission identifies possible risks and challenges and how to overcome them. 

  • Inclusivity. Submission demonstrates inclusivity in design and engineering, laying a foundation for future solutions that can be used by people with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities. 

  • Potential Impact. Submission describes potential benefit to one or more target user(s). 

 

Third round – Design/Prototype Submission 

  • Production Integration. Submission describes how the solution can be integrated into a product or a specific design, including scalability, ease of integration, and market readiness.  

  • Innovation. Submission shows a considerable amount of thought and effort spent in finding innovative solutions or new ways to approach existing solutions. 

  • Technical Approach. Submission demonstrates significant development and improvement of the initial idea/concept through additional refinement of the concept. Demonstrates a high-level of practicality for the proposed approach. 

  • Intuitive. Submission demonstrates a solution that is easy and intuitive for a prospective user and can be operated independently by a user with one or more of the disability types. 

 

Final round - Pitching 

  • Presentation. Ability to present ideas in a comprehensive and coherent manner. 

  • Product Feasibility. Submission demonstrates a reasonable path for implementation and production including expected obstacles to overcome. 

  • Beneficial. Submission describes potential benefits to one or more target user(s) or demonstrates the potential for users, should the solution be developed. 

  • Cost and Other Adoption Considerations. Submission describes expected costs to implement the idea and if/how the cost will impact the potential for future scalable adoption. 

8. CONFIRMATION OF FINALISTS & WINNER 

The Board of Mentors will select the top five (5) Submissions from among the Submissions of all Eligible Entrants in each category, based on the above noted criteria (the potential “Finalists”). On Fri, 03 June 2022, the Competition Organizer, acting reasonably, will attempt to contact each potential Finalist by email or telephone.

Potential Finalists determined by the Competition Organizer to be ineligible, for reasons including but not limited to failure to comply with the Terms and Conditions, failure to be contacted or respond to contact attempts, might be disqualified from the Competition. The Competition Organizer reserves the right to award or not the potential Finalist spot to the Submission with the next highest score in accordance with the criteria in their sole discretion.

The Competition Organizer may, at their sole discretion, publish one or more of the confirmed Finalists and their Submissions in print, digital, electronic, mobile and social media formats of the Competition Organizer. All confirmed Finalists hereby consent to the profiling and publication of their Submissions in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and will use reasonable efforts to cooperate with the Competition Organizer in the preparation of such profiles and publicity by the Competition Organizer.

On the Pitching day – Saturday, 11 June 2022, the Competition Organizer will announce the Winning Team

10. CONFIDENTIAL 

You are obliged to keep your Submission confidential and private, not to share part of or all of the Submission to other Entrants and/or any third party/ media in any manner and in any perspective during the Competition and within six months after the Awards Ceremony. Any violation to this confidential obligation resulting in the damage or harm to the Competition Organizer, the Competition Sponsor, and/ or the other Entrants shall be subject to the disqualification and/or other legal acts of the Competition Organizer at its sole discretion.

11. RELEASE OF LIABILITY/ CONSENT TO PUBLICITY 

By entering in this Competition, you will consent and agree that RMIT's Corporate Communications Office, its employees, or agents have the right to take photographs of them during the event and to use these in any media, including social media, associated with RMIT University Vietnam, and that their name and identity may be revealed therein or by descriptive text.

12. PRIVACY AND COMMUNICATION

By participating in this Competition, you hereby consent to the Competition Organizer collecting and using your personal information and to receiving commercial electronic messages from the Competition Organizer for the purpose of administering this Competition. Entrants will receive no marketing communications other than from the Organizer unless they provide express consent.

 
13. UPDATE AND MODIFY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This Competition will be run in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, subject to amendment by the Competition Organizer.  

The Competition Organizer, in its sole and absolute discretion, reserves the right to modify or terminate the Competition and amend the Terms and Conditions at any time, without individual notice, and for any reason.
